You can also visit our #MoreThanFood – Help with the cost of living page to find lots of advice on what help is available to everyone in the country.

The most important step is to get a foodbank voucher.

In order to provide the most appropriate help for the circumstances of your situation we work with lots of local agencies and organisations that can issue a foodbank voucher, including Wigan Council, Citizens Advice, lots of schools, GP’s, health visitors, social workers, The Job Centre, plus many more. Assessments are usually quick and will react to your situation. They can also provide long term support if needed to help address some of the issues behind the reasons for your crisis.

When you visit/contact a referral agency they will take some basic details from you to complete the voucher. This will help them to identify the cause of your crisis and offer practical guidance. It also means we are able to prepare suitable emergency food for the right number of people.

Once you have been issued with a voucher, in the form of a red card or a reference number, you can exchange this for a minimum of three days of emergency food at your nearest foodbank centre. Agencies we work with include: Citizens Advice, housing support officers, children’s centres, health visitors, social services, most local schools, local job centres and some local charities. (If you are a referral agency and would like to become a registered voucher holder for our foodbank, please contact us to find out more)

if you are issued with a voucher we request that you bring your shopping bags or bags for life with you. If you do not have any some will be provided but we now have to pay for them so it is better if you can bring some please.
