Warren, our long term project manager, has decided the time is right to step away from the food bank, in order to seek new adventures.
Since the food bank started in 2012, Warren has been there as a driving force to get the project started, then became a trustee when it attained charity status in 2013.
At that time, Warren was working nights at his job and running the food bank in the day, doing everything from organising donations to running the food bank sessions.
We eventually managed to get funding to employ a full time project manager, and Warren was perfect for the job, so gave up working nights, and his trustee role, and took up the full time position he was already doing as a volunteer.
In the following few years Warren drove the project forward with incredible energy and set it on the road to success, engaging with and recruiting many local agencies, plus coming up with innovative ideas to make sure people in a crisis situation were getting the best help possible to resolve it, often drawing praise and recognition from Trussell, a charity that runs a huge network of food banks, that we are one of.
Trussell managers often looked for ways to take his ideas and use them throughout the network, which showed just how hard he was working for local people.
His enthusiasm also inspired dozens of volunteers, from all walks of life to join us, and many have been here for over 10 years, in no small part thanks to Warren.
The food bank was meant to be a 2 – 3 year project, but when it was clear it was still needed, Warren continued to push it, with the full backing of the charity trustees, and we continued to go from strength to strength, working through adversity at times.
Facing issues with funding, referral agencies, and various supermarket policy, Warren, with support from the trustees, never gave up and always made sure we could feed the people that arrived at our door.
| “I would like to thank all the amazing volunteers who have dedicated their time and support that has made Atherton & Leigh Foodbank what it is today, a lifeline that help lots of local people in need, with food and support. I would like to also thank the amazing community that have donated the food and monies that have helped keep this food bank going. I know I leave it in great hands, as the food bank continues to help those in need as long as needed. Thanks to everyone for your support” Warren. |
Now he feels the time is right for new adventures, and as much as we will miss him, we can only feel pride for the work he has done, and wish him the best of luck for the future.
Thanks for everything Warren.
